Adaptive Path UXWeek

This week I'm in Washington DC attending Adaptive Path's UXWeek 2007. This is my first experience of Washington DC and an Adaptive Path conference, and I'm looking forward to both. Deborah Alder kicked off the event with the first keynote this morning. For those that don't recognize the name, Deborah designed a new prescription bottle as part of her Masters thesis, which she later sold to Target. After a number of iterations, the design ultimately became ClearRx. The talk was short but demonstrated how great design can have a profound affect on millions of people. Another highlight of the day for me was a session by Indi Young - one of the original founders of Adaptive Path. Indi held a session on her work around mental models based on her soon-to-be released book. The takeaway for me was not the model itself, but more the gap analysis that she applied after the data had been collected.
Overall, an interesting first day and some great opportunities to connect with people in the UX community.
