Canada Speaking Tour

Thanks to all who came to my “Putting the User Back into Architecture” sessions in Canada last week.  It was a fast-paced tour of Ottawa, Toronto, Quebec City, and Montreal – and despite getting snowed in at Montreal airport for the weekend – it was a lot of fun.

For those that are interested, I have uploaded the deck here.  As you may recall, the deck shows the framework which covers the three main areas that Architects should be thinking about when considering user experience:  Implicit, Interface, and Infrastructure. 

For those that did attend and have some comments about the framework, I’d love to hear them – especially as I get ready to deliver something similar at the Canada Regional Architect Forum in April.

    Simon,

    It was great to have you talk to architects in four Canadian cities. I am still receiving really positive feedback about the fact that your presentation provided some great ideas and a specific set of actionable steps that can be undertaken to improve the user experience. Finally, everyone seemed to have loved the AJAX demo as it was a great real-life example of how AJAX can be used to improve user experience.

    I agree with Mohammad’s statement surrounding ‘actionable’ steps. The best part about the presentation was the shift towards designing within the SDLC much earlier than traditional waterfall approaches. The Personas portion was likewise interesting, and can be easily incorporated into the design process. It addresses a specific need to ensure that application designers consider the needs of specific user profiles, and develop appropriate solutions. Overall, a very informative session.
